Spanish police have claimed that investigating crypto is difficult after arresting a “crypto-jihadist” in Barcelona suspected of owning various crypto addresses linked to terrorist networks funding ISIS. According to Spain ’s Ministry of Interior (MoI), the man was operating various crypto addresses linked to three international terrorist financing networks that fund DAESH — the Arabic acronym for ISIS .  The ministry stated that the use of crypto as a financing tool “promoted by fully specialized crypto-jihadists severely complicate the investigations of the security services.” The MoI also emphasized the importance of international cooperation, calling it “ one of the most decisive instruments to be able to neutralize these networks .” According to the ministry, the ISIS network and its “large economic movements” meant that authorities needed to work closely with the French DGSI, the American FBI, the Swedish SÄPO, and Europol. Attempts from Terraform Labs and its founder Do Kwon to avoid a class-action lawsuit have been dashed after the Singapore High Court rejected their attempts to dismiss the case this week. As reported by the Business Times, the lawsuit was filed in September 2022, by Julian Moreno Beltran and Douglas Ganon on behalf of 375 other investors.  It claimed Terraform, Luna Foundation Guard, and its co-founders Do Kwon and Nikolaos Alexandros Platias, fraudulently misrepresented its enterprise causing losses of $57 million.  However, Do Kwon ’s appeals against the lawsuit have been rejected by the Singaporean High Court on Thursday, opening up the doors for a lawsuit.  Do Kwon initially claimed that the lawsuit should be settled out of court using arbitration and referred to a clause within its website that waivered user rights to a trial or lawsuit. Police in Israel have officially recommended that controversial hard-partying entrepreneur Moshe Hogeg and seven unnamed partners be charged with defrauding investors out of nearly $300 million in a crypto scam. As reported by Bloomberg, the potential charges, which include fraud, theft, money laundering, forgery, and tax offenses, follow a two-year investigation during which police seized assets, collected 900 pieces of evidence, and questioned 180 witnesses. It’s alleged that Hogeg and his associates took millions of dollars from Israel i and foreign investors on the understanding that the money would be invested in four crypto start-ups. However, they apparently put the funds to their own personal use. Prosecutors will now decide whether to act on the recommendation.
